Three Ways to Use Facebook for Event Promotion

What is the primary reason for holding an event?

To get people to attend, of course!

Times have changed since posting fliers and putting an ad in a local newspaper were enough to get by. Society has become so reliant on technology, and more specifically, social media for the way we get our news and communicate with others. Promoting an event is another thing social media can be relied upon to help with. In this week’s blog, we look at three ways Facebook can help you advertise your event. 


Update your status to promote the event.
Because status updates are the backbone of Facebook, this is a great way to get people informed that you have an event coming up. Some aspects of the post should include gap hashtags (the inclusion of typically two to three hashtags spread out within the post), a Call-to-Action and most importantly, a link back to the event page so people may RSVP to your event. Also including visual content such as an attached invite or flyer with event information will help bring people to the post and ultimately, to your event!

Boosted Facebook Event
If you really want to stand out and make sure you get people to come to your event – and who wouldn’t? – putting some money behind a Facebook ad will help boost exposure and get people informed that your business is having an event. You can actually use this same concept with Facebook events, by boosting the actual event you have created. To boost an event, go to your events page with the list of your events. Click the blue button on the far right side of the event widget that says “Boost Event.” From there, decide your budget and target market based on your marketing strategy. Like the saying goes, “You have to spend money to make money.”

Utilize an RSVP app
Every day you see businesses on Facebook promoting their events. How are you going to ensure that Facebook users know which event is yours? This is where an RSVP app like Google Calendars comes in. To do this, go to your Google Calendar and create your event. Once you have provided all of the necessary information, select “Edit event.” At the bottom of this page you will find an option titled “Publish event.” After you have selected to publish, there will be a box code that appears. From there, copy the link inside the quotation that begins with the google URL.

Once this has been completed, in the supplemental app ShortStack, use the Image Widget to create an RSVP button that includes a hotspot. From there, paste the text from your Google Calendar event into the entry field. You have just created your RSVP button that allows potential attendees to quickly save your event to their  Google Calendars. How awesome is that?
