For decades, Skee-Ball has stood the test-of-time, preserving through economic ups and downs, changes in pop culture trends, and advancements in technology and entertainment. Through it all, due to the love of the game, Skee-Ball has remained a staple in the arcade industry. 

Bay Tek Entertainment, based in Pulaski, Wisconsin, recently purchased Skee-Ball, Inc. in 2016 and has been working hard to keep the original Skee-Ball game and the iconic brand relevant in today’s market. One big piece of remaining relevant today was to revamp and recreate a new website with all the modern elements of today’s cutting edge website design, while simultaneously holding true to the iconic imagery of the past that the game Skee-Ball has been known for. 

Bay Tek Entertainment is committed to keeping the legacy of Skee-Ball alive and revitalizing a brand that has lasted the test of time.

In early 2019, Bay Tek Entertainment approached Stellar Blue Technologies to help develop and launch a new, custom website that reflected their goals both in design and functionality. 

Client Challenges and Goals

Bay Tek Entertainment really wanted to carry the excitement and thrill that players experienced while playing Skee-Ball on their new website by creating a more modern, yet nostalgic overall look and feel. It was extremely important to hold true to the iconic look and feel of the Skee-Ball brand throughout the strategy, design, and development process. 

In addition to a critical design challenge, the new website would need to be tailored to multiple audiences and users. Target markets included fans of the game, businesses looking to purchase actual Skee-Ball roller games, private customers who want a Skee-Ball game in their “at home” game room, and businesses looking for licensing opportunities for the brand Skee-Ball.

With such a diverse audience of potential visitors, website navigation and functionality was also crucial in this project. Users of each target audience would need to be able to quickly identify where the information they were looking for was located, and easily be able to navigate to it.

We really worked to express the fun and excitement of playing the game of Skee-Ball in the design work that we provided on this project, and it definitely shows! Throughout the website, we relied on the use of our design teams brilliant, creative concepts, as well as fun, eye-catching images to help the visitor feel as though they were “playing” while browsing. 

This project features a lot of micro-animations and movement throughout the website. At the client’s request, we designed and incorporated an engaging historic timeline, utilizing animation to bring it to life. Animations and movement help to bring an element of uniqueness and creativity that elicits a feeling of youthful joy while scrolling or navigating from page to page.

A location finder, which aids webpage visitors in finding local establishments across the country that have playable Skee-Ball games were also added and featured on this project. Now visitors to the website can plan their next outing to bars, arcades, and other establishments nearby to Keep The Good Times Rollin’!
