Optimizing Google My Business: Insights

Hey guys, Nate here again with Steller Blue Technologies. Continuing our deep dive into our Google My Business profile. Today we are going to take a look at the insights section of our profile here. This section I found really useful in terms of just some of the insights that Google My Business can provide. So you see right here, it’s more of a visual display from some of the performance metrics that you’ll find in the info section or even on the dashboard. But, you can see here, you get the breakdown of how customers are finding your business whether they’re typing in your website URL directly, whether they’re discovering your business for the first time. This is a really good barometer on new versus returning customers or net new versus returning customers.

You’ll see, kind of this 50/50 breakdown. Some of the clients that I’ve helped have been much higher than that. Others, like our Stellar Blue or a Steller Blue Page here. It’s more of that 50/50, but as we continue to kind of make our way down here, you can see that you can take a look at the, the different queries or the different searches that you’re showing up for which is very similar to like a Google Search Console report. You can review results for one week, one month, or one quarter. But again, this is one of those ones that I think you can, uh, and I think I have done it in the past where I’ve, cross-referenced it with Google Search Console and it is pretty accurate.

This visual down here is where customers are finding you. This is really helpful, especially if you’re trying to gain ground on the maps portion. If you want to be up in that three pack for the map section this is a good section right here, kind of breaks it down where you are like in searches and in maps. So, again, you can break it down by month, quarter, or week. Month and quarter. Obviously, you’re going to want to be more in that map section, if that’s what your, what your goal is there. Customer actions, this is another good report that kind of gets you an idea as to where people are or what people are doing when they are searching on your Google My Business or on Google.

You can see how many people visit your website? How many people actually request directions if you have a physical location or a retail store and you can see how many people are actually calling you. I’ve seen some businesses or some offices within the same business have a real a real different dichotomy where people go to the website in one location or and there are more people that actually pick up the phone and call and another location. So it was kind of interesting seeing the differences within that specific company. But, here you can see the number of people that are requesting directions within a specific area or where they’re requesting directions from. Then down here, you can see the number of people and the days of the week that the people are making phone calls to you.

Lastly, as we get down here, we’re going to start looking at the overall number of photos, and we’ll get into photos here in our next video and talking a little bit more about why they’re important and what they do for you. But here again, you can kind of see your ranking or your business’s ranking next to other businesses that are in the similar categories. Then you can break down into how many images have you uploaded versus how many are your customers have uploaded? That’s kind of just a real quick walkthrough of the insights portion. Most of these reports are cross-referenced or can be cross-referenced with the other Google tools like Google Search Console and Google Analytics. But, it does offer a pretty nice reports in terms of Google My Business specifically. So that’s it for today. If you guys have any questions, feel free to reach out to us. We’re always here to help and we’ll see you on the other side. Thanks guys.
