Accessibility is a human right.

In order to be ADA compliant, a website needs to be accessible for users who have hearing, vision or physical disabilities. With the rise in virtual day-to-day interactions with your website it is crucial that your website is accessible to your entire audience.

What Is ADA Compliance?

ADA is an act that passed in 1990. It prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities and ensures that everyone has the same rights and opportunities when looking at a website. ADA compliant websites need to be present in all sectors. In 2010, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) passed the Standards for Accessible Design. With this, the law requires all electronic and information technology entities to be accessible for people with disabilities such as vision impairment and hearing loss, this includes websites!

What If I Don’t Design an ADA Accessible Website?

Businesses without ADA compliant websites will be considered “failure to comply” which means that they could receive lawsuits. Some sources say that depending on the state, a fine for this can reach a sum of up to $50,000.

However, the most important point here is that without ADA compliance for websites, businesses may lose on a lot of customers. Furthermore, ADA compliant websites are indexed and crawled by search engines in an easier way, pushing their position up in the rankings and getting the entire content in front of every user.
