Stellar Cares: A Day at Riverview Gardens
On the morning of Thursday, October 27th, a team of seven stellar employees stepped away from their desks and the digital world to exercise their agricultural muscles by venturing down to Riverview Gardens in Appleton. Riverview Gardens is a non-profit organization that’s primary focus is to provide job training for people in need, transforming their lives and the community as a whole. After turning a 72-acre golf course into a greenhouse and hydroponics compound, Riverview Gardens tackles some of the most serious regional issues like unemployment, poverty and homelessness. The point is, Riverview Gardens puts a great emphasis on giving back to the community and takes great pride in being able to change hundreds of lives each year. The team that volunteered got to find out first hand just how impactful Riverview Gardens is within the the community.
The Stellar Blue crew spent the morning harvesting and planting with Gil Shaw, Manager of Hydroponics, and Kelly Nutty, Director of Resource Management in the hydroponic greenhouse. The repurposed golf course and swimming pool serves as a growing center for fruits, vegetables and other herbs. From cleaning to packaging and labeling, the team took organic local lettuce from the greenhouse to the shelves of your local Festival Foods.
“We are part of an incredible community here in the Fox Valley. There is so much good going on around us. At Stellar, we strongly believe in giving back to all of that,” says Stellar Lead Web Developer. “We can’t thank Riverview Gardens enough for letting us come in and lend a hand.”
