No Luck Needed: 4 Things to Add to Your SEO Pot of Gold
You love your business. You devote a lot of time and money into making sure everything is exactly the way you want it. Maybe you developed a new website or implemented a blog, but there’s a problem; you are not getting the amount of traffic you predicted to visit your site.
Now you need to focus on search engine optimization (SEO), which attempts to improve rankings on search engine results pages. The goal is to move more traffic to the site by improving a website’s visibility. That sounds pretty great, right? Well the catch is, this will probably not happen all by itself, and you can’t just hope you’ll get lucky and end up at the top of the search engine results pages. You’re going to have to focus on a few things.
Your website needs to be mobile friendly. With the number of people who use a smartphone, tablet, phablet or other mobile device to access the internet, it’s imperative that your website is responsive on all of these devices. If someone is trying to access your site on their phone and the page isn’t responsive, they are going to find a different website that is, and you will miss out on further engagement or a potential sale. It’s also important to keep in mind that all interactive elements and links should work even when being accessed through a mobile device.
Keyword research is important. It helps to think like the person who might be searching for a business like yours. Brainstorm the types of words and phrases you would be using if you wanted to find the products or services your business has to offer. You can try searching these words in google, and then use the suggestions for related searches at the bottom of the search results page for some extra phrases.
Content is Key. You can’t expect people to visit and actually spend time on your website if there isn’t anything interesting for them to look at when they get there. It’s important to keep in mind the basic things you already know about content, which means no spelling errors, making sure the content is easy to digest and including some graphics. If you have a blog, you’re going to want the titles to be engaging so people actually read what you wrote.
Include Google+ and Youtube in your social platforms. A strong Google+ presence helps drive organic site visits and impacts google search rankings. To get the most out of Google+ posts, make sure to include a summary of the content you’re linking to and put the link in the link attachment area. YouTube is another vital platform to SEO because it is the second largest search engine in the world. You should include valuable information in the video description such as keywords and a link back to your business.
